THE Office of Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, in coordination with Vice Governor Allan Lim and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), extended support to displaced workers in Lala, Lanao del Norte, during a relief operation held on Tuesday, November 26.
Recognizing the need for sustainable economic recovery, Go underscored his commitment to assisting Filipinos, especially those in need, in rebuilding their livelihoods. He emphasized that strengthening the local economy and supporting livelihood opportunities are critical steps toward improving the overall quality of life in communities.
Meanwhile, DOLE provided livelihood assistance under its Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program. TUPAD initiative provides short-term employment opportunities to affected individuals, allowing them to earn income while contributing to community projects. Beneficiaries were engaged in activities such as cleaning and maintaining public spaces.
Held at the Barangay Lanipao covered court, the activity benefitted 138 displaced workers who received essential relief items, shirts, snacks, vitamins, masks, basketballs, and volleyballs from Senator Go. Selected beneficiaries also received mobile phones, watches, and pairs of shoes.
Go has filed Senate Bill No. 420 to establish a short-term employment program for eligible individuals from underprivileged households. This proposed measure would create the Rural Employment Assistance Program (REAP) to provide temporary employment opportunities to individuals who qualify as economically disadvantaged, impoverished, displaced, or seasonal workers.
To further ease the financial burden on Filipino families, Go also co-authored and co-sponsored SBN 2534, which aims to raise the daily minimum wage by P100 nationwide.
Ending his message, Go thanked the local government of Lala for their dedication and collaborative efforts in uplifting their constituents. He encouraged the beneficiaries to remain hopeful and united as the government continues to work toward inclusive recovery and development.
Go, known as Mr. Malasakit for his compassionate brand of service.
