NICOLAS Petro, the eldest son of Colombia President Gustavo Petro, has been freed from detention while he is being investigated on allegations of money laundering and illicit enrichment.
This comes after Nicolas Petro decided to collaborate with the prosecution and admit that his father’s 2022 election campaign received money from suspicious sources, prosecutors said.
According to the president’s eldest son, his father had no knowledge of the said funds channeled from drug traffickers.
“Neither my papa nor the campaign manager, Ricardo Roa, knew of the money that Daysuris (Vasquez, nicolas’s ex-wife) and I received from Santander Lopesierra and from Gabriel Hilsaca,” Nicolás Petro, Son of Colombian President Gustavo Petro said.
The admission to the Attorney General’s Office could compromise President Gustavo Petro’s position.
Now, there is a possibility that the president may face charges that could highly likely affect his remaining 3 years in power.
