Four dead, thousands flee homes as flood sweeps Southern Germany

THOUSANDS of people in the regions of Bavaria and Baden-Wuerttemberg had to leave their homes since Friday.

More people were evacuated on Monday as water systems collapsed and caused water levels to rise.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said the disaster served as a “warning” of a worsening climate change.

The severe weather claimed four lives including a volunteer firefighter.

About 20,000 people took part in rescue operations in the state of Bavaria alone while the German Weather Service warned of more heavy rain in southern and eastern parts of the country.

The incident followed weeks of flooding that wreaked havoc across northwestern Europe and affected countries like Germany, Netherlands, and Belgium.
