Houthi claims responsibility for attack on oil tanker off Yemen’s coast

THE United Kingdom warned to retaliate after Houthi rebels struck the British oil tanker Marlin Luanda in the Gulf of Aden.

The incident happened on Friday evening while the tanker was sailing in the Gulf of Aden after transiting the Red Sea.

A spokesperson for the rebel group said the attack was made to support the Palestinian people and in response to the American-British aggression against Yemen.

Hours after the attack, a representative for the UK government warned that Britain and its allies reserve the right to respond appropriately.

American and British troops have launched strikes on Houthi targets in response to the increasing attacks on commercial vessels since October 7.

The Houthis said it would not stop the attacks until food and medicine reached Gaza, and Israel stopped its military offensive in the war-torn enclave.

The UN Conference on Trade and Development revealed commercial traffic passing through Egypt’s Suez Canal has dropped by 42 percent in the past two months.
