Iran Navy intercepts US warships in Strait of Hormuz

COMMANDERS of the Iranian army released a footage showing the recent encounter between the navy personnel of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the United States forces in the Persian Gulf.

The video showed the guards monitoring the USS Bataan warship accompanied by choppers in the Strait of Hormuz-a strait between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.

According to Rear Admiral Ali Reza Tangsiri, the choppers took off from the US helicopter carrier, but promptly landed back after IRGC forces issued warnings not to violate Iran’s territorial waters.

The navy commander said this is the first time US forces had entered the Persian Gulf waters in the past two years.

Local media in Iran acknowledged the incident as a demonstration of the regime’s military control over the Persian Gulf’s strategic waterway.

The incident took place a few weeks after the US military deployed thousands of marines and sailors in the strategic waterway to counter alleged seizures of several civilian ships by Iran.

Tehran on the other hand accused the US of protecting smuggling activities in the Gulf waters.
