Japanese PM Kishida to attend APEC summit in San Francisco

JAPANESE Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will visit San Francisco from Wednesday to Sunday to attend a major economic and trade summit for Pacific powers.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno made the announcement during a press conference held earlier today.

The chief cabinet secretary said that the prime minister will actively lead discussions on important issues such as strengthening the supply chain, digital technology, and climate change as well as the promotion of free and open trade and investment.

Kishida is expected to meet United States President Joe Biden and South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol during the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum.

The Japanese prime minister and his South Korean counterpart will both deliver speeches at Stanford University on November 17.

Chinese President Xi Jinping will also attend the summit.

It is possible that Kishida will also meet President Xi during the summit.

It can be remembered that Beijing banned imports of Japanese marine products over the release of treated wastewater in the Pacific Ocean in August.
