THIS is how the former Press Secretary of President Bongbong Marcos Jr. explained the questions and challenges facing the public regarding the president undergoing a drug test.
However, according to Atty. Trixie Cruz-Angeles, there are many factors why Marcos Jr. does not directly respond to this.
“Actually, I understand they’re ignoring it because, in fact, it is difficult to deal with. How would he answer that? Either way, he’ll have to admit to previous drug use or he will lie,” said Atty. Trixie Cruz-Angeles, Former Press Secretary of the Marcos Jr. Administration.
The alleged pre-operations report of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) referring to Marcos Jr. as the subject of a drug operation in March 2012 is now circulating on social media.
The PDEA denied the documents presented by political vlogger Maharlika, who is also critical of the administration.
But according to Cruz-Angeles, Marcos Jr. is cornered from any angle on the issue.
“When he talks about it, and then it will open up: are there any repercussions to previous drug use? That now becomes a health issue—a health issue is a matter of public concern. So, their position is really difficult. And ignoring it might be the answer for them right now,” said Angeles.
Even the former Executive Secretary and Chief of Staff of Marcos Jr., Atty. Vic Rodriguez, is challenging Marcos Jr. to undergo a drug test.
The revelation that Marcos Jr. was seen using illegal drugs came from former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte himself, who claimed that he was shown evidence by the PDEA when he was still Mayor of Davao and even when he was president, documents were pointing to Marcos Jr. as a drug user.
Now that authorities have seized P13.3-B worth of shabu at a checkpoint in Alitagtag, Batangas, will the public believe this?
Even the President himself cannot directly answer if he is involved in illegal drug use.
Pres. Marcos Jr. lacks moral authority on illegal drug campaign—former NTF-ELCAC Spox
“There are so many loopholes. You mean to say, a P13 billion worth of shabu haul that only one person is carrying? No backup, no motorcycle in front, and he even intentionally went to the checkpoint?” according to Dr. Lorraine Badoy, Former NTF-ELCAC Spokesperson.
“For us Filipinos, listening to this President talk about drug addiction, about the drug menace, when he himself has not submitted to a drug test that we’ve been clamoring for. What’s your moral authority to talk about this problem? Nobody believes you!” she added.
“Unless the issue snowballs and people start clamoring for it. And if it becomes loud if they are shaken and then refuse to acknowledge even the question, it will now become a matter of his own security—the security of his tenure,” Angeles added.
