HATI ang mga mambabatas sa Mataas na Kapulungan pagdating sa kanilang opinyon pagdating sa mandatory vaccination ng booster sa general population.
Ito ay pagkatapos ipinayo ng isang infectious diseases expert na gawin nang mandatory ang bakunahan.
Kamakailan nang sabihin ni Infectious Diseases Expert Dr. Rontgene Solante, na panahon na para gawing mandatory ang bakunahan ng booster shots sa bansa.
Napakababa pa raw kasi ng booster coverage ng bansa at tumaas na ulit ang kaso ng COVID-19.
“The uptake of our booster shots is really low. So I think it’s high time that we mandate booster vaccination for the general population. It has to be mandatory so that we can increase protection, especially now that we are preparing for face-to-face classes and workplaces are also open now,” ang pahayag ni Dr. Rontgene Solante, Infectious Diseases Expert.
Kaugnay nito pagdating sa Mataas na Kapulungan ng Kongreso ay hati ang opinyon ng mga senador.
Si Senator Jinggoy Estrada, sinusuportahan daw ang mandatory COVID-19 booster shot para sa adult population dahil sa muling pagtaas ng kaso ng COVID-19 at positivity rate.
Sinabi pa nito na tungkulin ng gobyerno na agad na makapagdesisyon hinggil dito at agad na makapagpatupad ng urgent measures para maprotektahan ang mga Pilipino.
“Now that we are seeing again an increase in cases and the positivity rate, as we also expect the waning of potency of vaccines which were administered six months ago, it is the duty of the government to decide swiftly and to implement urgent measures to protect its citizens against this dreaded disease and against another wave of economic recession and hardships that could result from another Covid surge,” ayon kay Senator Jinggoy Estrada.
Si Senator Nancy Binay, pabor sa booster shot at apela nito na maging mas agresibo ang DOH sa pagbibigay ng proteksyon para sa mga priority groups.
“Ang importante, we all agree that the paramount concern is to be fully protected from the virus,” ani Senator Nancy Binay.
Si Senator Bong Go, chairman ng Senate Committee on Health, mas nais namang mailapit sa mga tao ang tamang impormasyon hinggil sa bakuna para daw makagawa ang mga ito nang tamang desisyon.
“Bukod sa sapat na supply, “awareness and access” sa mga bakunang ito ang kailangan upang hindi masayang ang ating pinaghirapan. Kung pwede ay dalhin ang tamang impormasyon at mismong bakuna sa mga kabahayan lalo na sa mga liblib na lugar,” ani Senator Christopher “Bong” Go.
Si Senator Loren Legarda, hinikayat ang mga eligible sa booster na magpaturok para sa kapakanan ng pamilya at workforce.
“I would strongly urge all those qualified—eligible based on age and comorbidities— to avail of the booster shots all over the country, to ensure our health and that of our workforce, and families,” ayon kay Senator Loren Legarda.
Habang ang opposition senators na sina Risa Hontiveros at Koko Pimentel, hayagang sinabi na hindi sila pabor sa mungkahi na obligahin na ang mga Pilipino na magpaturok ng booster shots.
Si dating Senate President Tito Sotto III mas palagay pa rin na manatiling voluntary ang bakunahan kung hindi naman sinusuportahan ng science ang mandatory booster shots.
“In the absence of science data, I will still support a voluntary booster pa din,” ani former Senate President Tito Sotto III.
Sinabi naman ni Philippine Chamber and Commerce Industry President George Barcelon, na mas sinusuportahan pa rin nila ang voluntary approach sa pagbibigay ng proteksyon laban sa COVID-19.
Matatandaan na una nang inihayag ni DOH Usec. Rosario Vergeirie na nanatiling boluntaryo ang bakunahan sa bansa.
