More than 100 people evacuated from flooded settlements in Kherson Region

MORE than a hundred people have been evacuated from houses that have been submerged in floods in the Kherson Region the previous day.

This is what Tass reported on Tuesday where up to 7,200 people were initially evacuated in the Kherson Region after the collapse of the Kakhovka Dam, including 420 children and 123 residents.

Of this number, 1,700 are in temporary shelters and 84 have been sent to hospital for treatment.

It can be remembered that the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant on the Dnipro River was destroyed on the 6th of June due to the dam water level lowering causing extensive flooding in nearby areas.

The water level increase in a part of the Dnipro River have raised serious environmental concerns.

In the Kherson Region, approximately 21,000 homes have been affected by extensive flooding.

Meanwhile, there are growing concerns about the safety of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant as the Kakhovka Dam supplies water to the said plant.

According To International Atomic Energy Agency or IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi, the power plant could be stuck in the middle of the war between Russia and Ukraine as it is within the conflict area.
