NO matter where you are right now – you’re sure to feel the intense heat of the weather.

In the Philippines, many Filipinos are trying to find ways to cool down— even just a little, to ease the scorching heat.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) report as of 8:00 am on APRIL 19, 2024, over two hundred thousand families have been severely affected by El Niño.

This is equivalent to over one million individuals, with the majority located in Region 6.

The affected areas span across five regions, twenty provinces, over eighty-four cities/municipalities, and more than a thousand barangays.

Nearly 60 Philippine towns declare state of calamity due to El Niño

As a result, nearly sixty towns have declared a state of calamity due to El Niño.

Meanwhile, nearly thirty thousand farmers and fisherfolks have been affected by El Niño, while over twenty-six thousand hectares of agricultural land have been impacted.

Overall, the damage caused by El Niño to the Philippine agriculture sector has amounted to over a billion pesos.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has emphasized the need for cooperation among various stakeholders and local governments to mitigate the adverse effects of El Niño.
