OVP sends aid to flood-hit families in Bangsamoro Region

THE Office of the Vice President (OVP) has distributed relief boxes to some 1,600 families in areas affected by flash floods in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Through the OVP BARMM Satellite Office, around 1,000 families were given aid inside the designated evacuation center in the Municipality of Matanog in Maguindanao del Norte following the severe flooding brought by the combined effects of the southwest monsoon (habagat) and the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).

Each relief box contained hygiene kits, blankets, sleeping mats, mosquito nets (kulambo), slippers, expandable water jugs, and other needed necessities.

The BARMM regional government earlier declared a ‘red alert’ as the severe flooding in the region has already affected close to 94,400 families.

The OVP’s Disaster Operations Center (DOC) leads all disaster response activities of the agency and coordinates closely with local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (DRRMC).

Meanwhile, around 600 flood-hit families in the town of Balabagan in Lanao del Sur also benefitted from the OVP relief distribution.

The relief distribution in Balabagan was made possible through the efforts of the LGU Balabagan, Municipal Social Services and Development Office, and the Bureau of Fire Protection.
