PINALAWIG pa ng Department of Education (DepEd) ang senior high school (SHS) voucher program para sa Grade 11 students na kasalukuyang naka-enroll sa state universities and colleges (SUCs) at local universities and colleges (LUCs) ngayong paparating na School Year 2024-2025.
Inilahad ni Education Usec. Michael Poa sa House Committee on Basic Education and Culture nitong Lunes na ipinag-utos ni Vice President at Education Secretary Sara Duterte ang extension ng voucher program.
Ito ay matapos na kanilang nakita sa database na higit 17,000 na Grade 11 na non-voucher recipients ang kasalukuyang naka-enroll sa mga SUC at LUC.
“So ito nga po ‘yung naging issue natin. Ano ang mangyayari sa Grade 11 na ito?” pahayag ni Usec. Michael Poa, Department of Education.
“The Vice President has already given out instructions that DepEd, because of this situation of having 17,751 learners in Grade 11, DepEd, will again be extending na lang ‘yung ating voucher program,” dagdag ni Poa.
Pinalawig din ani Poa ang voucher program hanggang sila ay mag-Grade 12 sa susunod na taon.
Ngunit sinabi ni Poa na kailangang magkaroon muna ng memorandum of agreement (MOA) sa pagitan ng DepEd at Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
“DepEd will again extend the voucher program when they enter Grade 12 next year, provided that a memorandum of agreement is executed between DepEd and CHED to provide a clear timeline,” aniya.
Sa panig naman ng CHED, muli nilang ipinaliwanag kung bakit sila naglabas ng memo ukol sa pagpapahinto sa senior high sa mga SUC at LUC.
“The problem is that there is no more legal basis for SUCs and LUCs to have senior high, except those having laboratory schools for their education students, and there is a significant number who have laboratory schools,” saad ni Chairperson Prospero de Vera, Commission on Higher Education.
Dagdag ni Chairperson Prospero de Vera na ipinaalam din sa kanila ng DepEd na wala nang voucher program.
Aniya ang pinakamahalagang dahilan kung bakit kailangan din tugunan ang nasabing problema ay dahil nangangailangan aniya ng karagdagang mga pasilidad ang mga SUC at LUC dahil sa tumaas na enrollment sa senior high.
“We have to remember that SUCs and LUCs are higher education institutions. Their mandate is to provide post-secondary education,” ayon pa kay De Vera.
Batay sa datos ng CHED, 53 sa 103 SUC ang wala nang Grade 11 habang 52 SUC ang hininto na ang Grade 12.
Sa mga LUC, 104 sa 114 nito ay wala nang Grade 11 habang 97 ang wala nang Grade 12.
