Social media could ignite People Power amid growing discontent

FORMER Presidential Political Adviser believes there is a medium that could rapidly ignite another people power amid the growing discontent among Filipinos.

That’s the warning from Atty. Jing Paras concerning the Marcos administration in relation to the current events in the country.

Paras, a former political adviser to former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, believes that the prediction made by the former President regarding President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. might come true.

“President Duterte said, you might follow your father who was driven away to Hawaii,” said Atty. Jing Paras, Former Presidential Political Adviser.

During his time in politics, Paras claims to have only seen this level of discontent among the public now.

He says this is evident from the comments of netizens on social media, which quickly go viral.

He notes that this is far from the time of former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. when there was no internet and information spread slowly, causing Filipinos to endure for a long time.

One of the current pressing questions about Marcos Jr. is whether he used illegal drugs, especially with documents circulating on social media suggesting he was targeted in an anti-drug operation.

“So, my point is to save this nation, Mr. President, because you are insisting on running for President—you have the people’s support. Please undergo a drug test,” said Paras.

Paras also claims there is a significant number of Filipinos who oppose Marcos Jr.’s strong alignment with the United States.

He alleges that the Philippines is being used in the proxy war between the US and China over territorial disputes in the South China Sea.

‘Duterte is no pushover’: Former Pres’l adviser believes FPRRD holds trump card vs Marcos Jr.

Meanwhile, Paras, a former political adviser to the Duterte administration, sees FPRRD as having a trump card against Jr.

Especially since Duterte was the first to mention that the current President might be under the influence.

“President Duterte is not a push-over. President, what’s this? He’s just looking for the proper timing. As he said to his people, it’s not ripe yet,” he also said.

There are now consecutive MAISUG Rallies in various parts of the country.

In these rallies, Duterte expresses his opposition to the policies of the current administration.

Especially concerning the issue of Charter Change (Cha-cha) under the controversial People’s Initiative (PI).

Duterte claims that the real intention here is term extension, not amending the economic provisions of the Constitution.

If there’s no clear response to the public’s questions, Paras believes that the Filipinos will surely stand up.

Because the power of those in government comes from the people.

And the power to revoke it also lies with the people.

“This might catch fire. In the soonest possible time. That’s the problem with Duterte as a rallying point. It might accelerate further. It happened to Erap, it almost happened to GMA, it happened to Ferdinand Marcos Sr,” Paras concluded.
