NAGBIBIGAY ng kabuhayan sa milyun-milyong Pilipino ang turismo at samakatuwid ang anumang krimen laban sa mga turista ay isang krimen laban sa ating bansa.
Iyan ang naging tugon ni Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco kasunod ng insidente ng umano’y paglunok ng ninakaw na $300 ng isang Office of the Transportation Security personnel sa NAIA.
Ani Sec. Frasco, suportado nila ang hakbang ng Department of Transportation (DOTr) na ibigay ang pinakamataas na parusa laban sa taong sangkot sa nasabing insidente.
‘‘From our end we fully support the Department of Transportation’s measures to mete out the maximum penalty to the person involved and we continue to collaborate with them so that the Filipino brand of service excellence especially in our gateways is perpetuated,’’ ayon kay Sec. Christina Frasco, DOT.
Ipinaliwanag din ni Frasco na ang nasabing isolated incident ay hindi kumakatawan sa buong industriya ng turismo.
Kumpiyansa si Frasco na dahil maraming dahilan para mahalin ang Pilipinas, patuloy na uunlad ang industriya sa kabila ng mga nasabing insidente.
‘‘However I would just like to qualify that the single act or other isolated acts is absolutely not a representative of our tourism industry and our tourism workers in the country who have worked so hard to ensure that we rise from the challenges of the pandemic and the calamities. We are confident that since there are many reasons to love the Philippines, our tourism industry will continue to flourish despite these isolated incidents,’’ dagdag ni Sec. Frasco.
Kauna-unahang Tourism Pride Summit, inilunsad ng DOT
Samantala nitong Huwebes, inilunsad ng DOT ang kauna-unahang Tourism Pride Summit.
Layon ng DOT na mabigyan ng prayoridad ang pantay-pantay na oportunidad ng mga kababaihan, kalalakihan, at LGBTQIA+ sa trabaho, pagnenegosyo, at iba pang aspeto sa tourism industry.
Ang Tourism Pride Summit ani Frasco ay tanda ng layunin ng administrasyong Marcos na maging inklusibo at sustainable ang tourism industry ng bansa.
‘‘Nais po natin na maging inclusive sa ating turismo kaya naman binibigyan natin ng honor and recognition ‘yung ang ating mga members ng LGBTQIA+ community from our hotel and accommodation sector to our entertainment, festivals and cultural offerings to even our pasalubong makers, our choreographers, our dancers, costume makers and the like,’’ ayon pa kay Frasco.
Dagdag pa ni Frasco na kinikilala nila ang mga potential ng pag-capitalize sa LGBTQIA+ tourism.
Ayon sa kalihim na ito ay isa nang $200-B na industriya at inaasahang uunlad pa sa kalahating trilyong dolyar pagsapit ng 2030.
‘‘Nais nating gumawa ng mga programa at government interventions kung saan bigyan natin ‘yung ating LGBTQIA+ community ng opportunities to experience an enjoyable, safe, and unforgettable travels to the Philippines that’s free of discrimination,’’ aniya.
