EARLIER, the US Senate approved a bill that would secure the federal government’s financial support until early March in a move to steer clear of the government shutdown on Friday.
They had a decisive vote of 77-18 and now, the U.S. Congress has approved the bill in a 314-108 vote result.
The swift approval of the temporary funding bill will maintain spending at the previous fiscal year’s levels until March 1 and March 8 in order to give American lawmakers additional time to finalize a comprehensive budget for government agencies.
Senate Majority Leader Democrat Chuck Schumer and House Republican Mike Johnson initially agreed to a 1.59 trillion dollars in discretionary spending level for the fiscal year, but democrats now assert that the agreed-upon amount is 1.66 trillion dollars which has led to disagreements.
With this, the new stopgap bill is meant to temporarily deal with the issue and is currently for approval by President Joe Biden.
