China, Singapore to hold joint naval drills

WAR games continue around the Indo-Pacific there are the recently-concluded 3-day military drills of China, the Balikatan or shoulder-to-shoulder between the Philippines and the U.S., and the US-South Korea-and Japan drills, and now, China and Singapore are set to host their joint naval drills this week as announced by Beijing’s defense ministry.

The naval drills include the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA’s) navy. It will dispatch its frigate, ‘Yulin’, and the ‘Chibi minesweeper’ for the exercises that will take place around Singapore starting around the end of April up to early May.

According to the Chinese defense ministry, in 2022, both countries agreed to hold the naval drills at a meeting of defense ministers; however, at that time, the details were not yet announced.

And in May, China will also participate in the I.M.D.E.X. Asia Naval and Maritime Defense Expo in Singapore.

Although this is not the first time that it has held such drills. Singapore rarely conducts them with other countries. China and Singapore already held naval drills in the South China Sea, including various joint exercises in 2021.

Singapore has also recently concluded its military exercise with U.S. troops in Thailand just this March.
