Indonesia to inaugurate new president, VP in October

INDONESIA prepares to welcome its new president and vice president who will be sworn into office before the end of the year.

President-elect Prabowo Subianto and Vice-President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka are all set for their inauguration on the 20th of October.

The winning presidential pair will replace outgoing President Joko Widodo, who is Gibran’s father, and Vice President Ma’ruf Amin.

The inauguration was supposed to take place in the city of Nusantara in East Kalimantan which will later replace Jakarta as the new capital, but the plan got canceled last minute.

However, Indonesian officials plan to celebrate Independence Day in East Kalimantan on August 17 to mark the transfer of capital status from Jakarta to Nusantara.

Meanwhile, Subianto assured he is in good health and recovering following a leg surgery last week. He made the statement amid concerns about his health ahead of the inauguration.

The inauguration will take place after Indonesia held its general elections on February 14. It was considered one of the biggest elections worldwide with more than 200 million registered voters.
