DATONG City in north China’s Shanxi Province experienced sleet on Tuesday morning, leading to a sharp drop in temperature. The cold front caused temperatures to plunge by as much as 16 degrees Celsius. The combination of snow and rain reduced visibility and made roads slippery, prompting drivers to slow down for safety. The sleet ended around 11:00 a.m., but the cold weather persisted.
In Pinglu District of Shuozhou City, also in northern Shanxi, temperatures have dipped below freezing at night. To combat the cold, the district began its heating supply on Tuesday, marking the tenth straight year it has done so on National Day.
The early arrival of winter weather has prompted swift action to ensure public safety, as local authorities prepare for more cold weather in the coming days.
