Constructed Muzon Riverwall protects residents, fishing community from flooding in Malabon City

THE construction of the Muzon Riverwall (Phase completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways – Malabon Navotas District Engineering Office) helped protect residents, and fishing community by mitigating the effects of flooding at Barangay Muzon, Malabon City.

This project addresses the persistent flood issues that have long affected the area due to rising water levels along the Muzon River. Advanced construction measures, including the installation of steel sheet piles, and H-piles reinforced with a concrete pile cap along the river’s edge were implemented in the construction phase. These reinforcements create a strong flood defense system designed to withstand high tides, and prevent flooding in vulnerable areas.

With the completion of this infrastructure, Barangay Muzon is now well-protected from future flooding, ensuring the safety of residents and stability for local businesses. Additionally, the project safeguards the community’s fish ponds – an essential industry in the area – allowing them to operate without the threat of flood-related disruptions, thereby securing and potentially increasing local revenue.
