FORMER President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and the Philippine delegations’ next stop took them to China’s Beijing capital, wherein she did not miss completing her visit by climbing the Great Wall of China.
Arroyo’s visit is part of a tour as part of strengthening the good friendship between the two countries.
In 1977, FPGMA visited China as a young delegation member of the Association of Philippines-China Understanding.
Forty-six years later, she re-walked the route again and passed the baton of the China-Philippines friendship to the next generation.
Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian said FPGMA arrived early at the Mutianyu Great Wall, the famous landmark’s longest and best fully-restored section.
The majestic Great Wall has been known to be built by human hands for more than two thousand years.
The wall spans over 20,000 kilometers across Northern China, standing as a symbol of the enduring monument to the ancient Chinese civilization.
And in modern times, the Great Wall is known as an iconic cultural Jewel of China.
As a favorite section for tourists and explorers, FPGMA, together with the entire Philippine delegation, enjoyed the cool weather and beautiful Chinese landscape scenery.
FPGMA, who is also the current senior deputy speaker, shared that she has visited The Great Wall many times, but it’s her first time enjoying the Mutianyu Great Wall section.
Also, this was her first time in the Great Wall of China since 2000 and since her presidency.
Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian lauded FPGMA’s visit and said that her guidance shows the long relations of China-Philippine exchanges.
“It is also good to see how the guidance of FPGMA shows the long relations of China-Philippine exchanges,” said H.E. Huang Xilian, Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines.
Aside from the great wall, FPGMA, together with the Philippine delegation, also visited various historic landmarks in Hunan and Guangzhou.
