SPEAKING in front of world leaders, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi attacked the US policies and its allies, stating that the era of western hegemony is over.
In his speech before the United Nations General Assembly, Raisia accused the United States of exacerbating the war in Ukraine while Iran supported a peace settlement.
According to the Iranian president, the US “has fanned the flames of violence in Ukraine in order to weaken the European countries” which he said “is a long-term plan, unfortunately.”
Raisi warned that the transition towards a new world order is irreversible, adding that the days of Western hegemony are over, and the project to ‘Americanize’ the world has failed.
He maintained that the Iranian-made drones Russia has been using in its war with Ukraine had been sold before the war and challenged the US to provide evidence it gave Moscow weapons or drones before the invasion.
Moreover, the Iranian leader said that easing sanctions is the first step to move forward in the ongoing negotiations to revive the 2015 Iran nuclear deal as he questioned the commitment of the United States over the matter.
Raisis’s speech prompted a one-man protest from Israel’s representative to the United Nations Gilad Erdan.
A UN security officer swiftly escorted the Israeli ambassador out of the premises after holding a protest sign while the Iranian leader was delivering his speech.
Meanwhile, Iranian government spokesman Ali Bahadori Jahromi criticized the new Western sanctions against Iranian individuals and entities, including media outlets.
The sanctions announced by the US, Britain, and the European Union were imposed on the eve of the first anniversary of the 22–22-year-old Iranian Kurd Mahsa Amini’s death commemorated last week.
