‘Politically biased’: Iran slams G7 over warning on nuclear program, Russia ties

THE Iranian foreign ministry slammed the G7 nations after condemning Iran for escalating its nuclear program.

The ministry called out the bloc after it warned Iran last week against advancing its nuclear enrichment program and said it would not hesitate to enforce new measures if Tehran were to transfer ballistic missiles to Russia.

The G7 – a group of the world’s seven largest so-called “advanced” economies – condemned Iran during a two-day summit held in Italy.

The latest report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) claimed the Islamic Republic is now enriching uranium to up to 60% purity. The figure is close to 90% of weapons-grade which, if enriched further, is enough to make three nuclear weapons.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani responded to the warning, stating that the G7 must move on from the “destructive policies of the past.”

The Iranian spokesman added that any attempt to link the war in Ukraine to the bilateral cooperation between Iran and Russia is a reflection of biased political goals.

Meanwhile, protesters gathered near the luxury resort where the 50th edition of the international two-day summit was taking place. The gathering organized by trade unions and students protested against the bloc’s stance on war policies, military spending, the impoverishment of labor forces, and the decline of public services, among others. Some of the protesters were also seen waving Palestinian flags.

Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman said that the Islamic Republic would maintain its cooperation with the IAEA, although he labeled the nuclear watchdog’s resolution as “politically biased.”
