Putin March 2024 presidential bid

RUSSIAN President Vladimir Putin announced that he will run for the March 2024 presidential elections during an important ceremony where he awarded the ‘Hero of Russia’ medals to servicemen who participated in the country’s so-called special military operation in Ukraine.

Artyon Zhoga, who was labeled as the hero of the Donetsk People’s Republic, asked if Putin would run next year, to which the Russian president confirmed.

“You are our president. We’re your team. We need you, and Russia needs you too. I will not hide the fact that I’ve had different thoughts at times. However, right now, you are right. These are times when decisions must be made. I will run for the office of the president,” Artyon Zhoga, Donetsk People’s Republic, said.

Based on a recent poll conducted by Russia’s Public Opinion Foundation, about 70% of Russian citizens believe that Putin should run for president again.

Meanwhile, 15% said that Putin should leave his current position to take a senior government position.

While 8% believe that Putin should leave the political arena.

Putin currently enjoys a high approval rating.

According to Statista, in October 2023, 8 out of 10 percent of Russians approved of Putin’s activities.

The popularity level was 5% higher than in September 2022 when the figure went down following the announcement of a partial mobilization in the country.

Statista also stated that Putin’s approval rating increased after Russia invaded Ukraine at the end of February 2022.

And if Putin wins president in 2024, this would mark his fifth term as head of the Russian Federation.

The Russian presidential election will take place between March 15 and March 17, 2024, and the winner will be inaugurated in May 2024.
