Rehab of Luneta pumping station addresses flood issues in Manila City

TO strengthen flood mitigation structures in Manila City, the Department of Public Works and Highways – South Manila District Engineering Office initiated the rehabilitation of Luneta Pumping Station located at Katigbak Parkway, Ermita, Manila, completing its phases one and two in 2024.

The completion of this project addresses frequently flood-issues in the areas of Manila City Hall, Bonifacio Drive, Katigbak Parkway, New Luneta Street, South Boulevard, and Padre Burgos Street due to their proximity to bodies of water. While this initiative mainly aims to alleviate flooding, and protect the lives and properties of the residents in its locality, motorists,  and pedestrians will benefit from a roadway free of floodwaters, improving safety and accessibility.

This project is an important step in addressing the challenges of global warming, and effects of climate change in the region.
