Religious group opposes Philippines’ involvement in conflict with China

THE Philippines is currently facing numerous problems.

There is a continuous rise in the prices of basic commodities in the market, high charges for water and electricity, and many other headaches and burdens for the ordinary Filipino.

In the midst of the daily struggles of the people in what seems to be a worsening state of life in the country, there looms a potential war between the Philippines and China, fueled by the instigation and provocation of America.

As the situation in the Philippines deteriorates, Filipinos are now seeing the true colors of the Marcos administration.

Because of this, the calls for Bongbong Marcos to leave Malacañang continue to grow.

Among the groups that stepped up to speak out to oppose the government is the Nationally Concerned Christian Leaders and Citizens, which recently sent a letter to Marcos Jr.

The group insists they do not want the Philippines to be used in a proxy war.

Angel Ortega, Head Coordinator and Convenor of the group said all independent religious groups are united in their call to avoid war.

“We, the Nationally Concerned Filipino Christian Leaders and Citizens, stand united today to voice out our grave concern and refusal to the disastrous civil war, nor a proxy war that is brewing at hand. We are calling out the attention of our President and the Armed Forces of the Philippines to no longer allow this war posturing against China and the daily drumbeat of war being projected by the mainstream media,” according to Pastor Angel Ortega, Head Coordinator, Convenor, NCCLC.

Former CPP-NPA-NDF cadre Jeffrey “Ka-Eric” Celiz, supports the actions taken by various religious groups, saying that the government should listen to the voice of the church and immediately address their grievances because they do not want our country to crumble in the hands of a corrupt government.

“The voice of the church people needs to be heard in these critical times. That’s why we are here, whether Muslim or Christian, we do not want to see our country collapse into the mire of an evil government that does not recognize morality and faith of conviction to serve its country and its people,” Jeffrey “Ka-Eric” Celiz, Former Cadre, CPP-NPA-NDF said.

Former CPP-NPA-NDF cadre Peter “Ka-Ramon” Mutuc emphasized the importance of the gathering because, according to him, none of the mainstream media are reporting on the impending war.

“To awaken and inform the people, including you, that a war is brewing. This is not a joke, and it is truly disheartening that the mainstream media is not addressing it. It’s terrifying,” Peter “Ka-Ramon” Mutuc, Former Cadre, CPP-NPA-NDF expressed.

Meanwhile, in line with this, personalities Atty. Vic Rodriguez, Atty. Harry Roque, Atty. Trixie Cruz-Angeles, and Atty. Glenn Chong held a forum in Barangay Bambang, Bocaue, Bulacan.

According to former Executive Secretary Atty. Vic Rodriguez, the forum aims to inform Filipinos of the true state of our country.

“They are genuinely worried about the impending war between the Philippines and China. I know this is also troubling your minds, primarily because there is no clear explanation from the government on what the real state of this problem is. Why are there so many American soldiers in the Philippines?” Atty. Vic Rodriguez, Former Executive Secretary said.

According to Atty. Harry Roque, Marcos Jr.’s continued evasion of the issue regarding his alleged use of illegal drugs is no longer amusing.

“It’s not funny to ask if you are an addict. Why? Because if you are the President and not in the right mind, you could drag the Philippines into a war that the Filipinos have no interest in dying for, and that is what is happening now,” Atty. Harry Roque, Former Spokesperson, Malacañang said.

For Atty. Trixie Cruz-Angeles, the Philippines will not progress if the President’s policy remains unchanged.

“You need to know this, your family needs to know this, your friends need to know this—that this is our state, and it will not get better next year if the President’s decisions remain the same. The prices of food, water, and transportation will remain high. We cannot expect any improvement if he does not change,” according to Atty. Trixie Cruz-Angeles, Former Spokesperson, Malacañang.

BBM’s resignation will prevent impending war—Atty. Chong

According to Atty. Glenn Chong, to end the hardships of Filipinos and prevent the impending war, BBM should step down as the country’s president.

“Of course, Marcos should be ousted from Malacañang—that’s the most practical solution. But I should stress out that our basis for ousting Marcos is not only because we want peace, but because he manipulated his mandate,” Atty. Glenn Chong said.

This sentiment is agreed upon by various sectors.

“What has our President done to make our country peaceful? In my opinion, he should step down because if he stays longer, the Filipino people will suffer more,” Butch Ancheta, Urban Poor Sector said.

“Yes, indeed. It feels like we are being deceived because none of their promises are being fulfilled,” Bernardo Rebueno, Senior Citizen stressed.
