Strong earthquake kills dozens in Nepal

MORE than a hundred people died after a magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck Jajarkot District in the Nepalese Province of Karnali on Friday night.

Officials on Saturday said that 128 people died.

Authorities fear that the death toll could still rise.

The quake occurred on Friday evening with a magnitude 6.4 but was later downgraded at 5.6 by the United States Geological Survey.

The tremors were so strong that houses collapsed as far as New Delhi, India.

Nepali Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal expressed sorrow for the lives and properties lost in the quake and ordered immediate rescue and relief operations.

The quake is the deadliest to hit Nepal since 2015 when about 9,000 people were killed in two earthquakes in the Himalayan country.
