THAILAND Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai led a high-level delegation of local officials to visit one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.
The 40-member delegation consists of officials from various ministries and representatives from the private sector.
The foreign minister will stay in the country for five days, with hopes of further strengthening bilateral ties and promoting economic relations and investment.
He is scheduled to meet with several senior Saudi officials, including his counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Throughout the 50s and 60s, relations between the two nations grew significantly stronger as their trade ties revolved around security and oil.
Thailand and Saudi Arabia‘s diplomatic ties however deteriorated in 1989 as a result of an incident known as the Blue Diamond Affair.
The dispute started after a Thai janitor was accused of stealing $20m worth of precious gems from the home of a Saudi prince, triggering a spate of murders in Bangkok and a feud between the two countries.
Both countries restored full diplomatic relations in January 2022 or more than 30 years after the scandal.
