Artificial Intelligence to replace humans, leave thousands jobless in Australia

NIUSHA Shafiabady, an internationally recognized expert in Artificial Intelligence and associate professor from Charles Darwin University, warned that retail workers and people employed in the food services industry will be replaced by Artificial Intelligence.

The technology known as generative AI could be rolled out across Australia by the end of 2024 which means thousands of workers are at risk of losing their jobs especially since the country is fast adapting to it.

Generative AI is being used widely anywhere in the world to replace workers employed to do repetitive jobs, such as administration work and banking services.

Shafiabady said that these types of jobs, including those that don’t need analytical thinking skills, will be the first ones to be replaced by AI.

Despite concerns of people losing jobs in the future, a new study by Charles Darwin University showed that AI can be maximized to help businesses survive the next global crisis by helping an organization predict what factors could affect an organization’s ability to prepare, respond, and recover from economic disruptions.

Meanwhile, research by workplace technology firm Service Now revealed that 1.3 million jobs in Australia will be automated in the next four years, with thousands of human workers getting replaced by robots.

Even those with higher-order skills are not exempted although it will take much longer to replace.
