TO support technology-based investments and projects in the region, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) officially launched today the Kalinga Science, Technology, and Innovation (𝐒𝐓𝐈) 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧 and the Tabuk City Smart and Sustainable Community (SSC) Hub in Tabuk City.
Kalinga Province is one of the two pilot provinces for the implementation of the Innovation, Science, and Technology for Accelerating Regional Technology-Based Development Program (iSTART) in CAR, which allowed the formulation of the STI Plan of Kalinga.
The implementation of iSTART aims to promote geographically balanced development by fostering regional growth through science, technology, and innovation. It also aims to assist LGUs in developing a science, technology, and innovation (STI) plan, also known as a technology-based development plan, for the agri-based, manufacturing, and services sectors.
The STI plan will serve as a roadmap designed to harness local expertise, strengthen research and development efforts, and drive sustainable growth. This initiative underscores the collective vision of a future where innovation empowers communities, improves livelihoods, and enhances resilience in the province of Kalinga.
Additionally, the plan is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Philippine Development Plan (PDP), and the province’s tagline “LUMIN-AWA Kalinga,” a local term for collective advancement epitomized in the Provincial Development and Physical Framework Plan (PDPFP).
Tabuk City, Kalinga, is also one of the cities among the 80 partner cities in the country that signifies their intent to become Smart and Sustainable Community. They will serve as a model city in the region for integrating innovative technologies, data-driven solutions, and sustainable practices.
