Finance ministers from Japan, South Korea, U.S. to hold three-way talks in Washington

FINANCIAL leaders from Japan, South Korea, and the United States will step up their economic cooperation in the light of geopolitical risks in the Middle East.

The three finance ministers are scheduled to meet for their first trilateral summit this week.

South Korea’s Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok departed for the U.S. on Tuesday.

He is scheduled to meet U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Japan’s Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki on Wednesday.

The trilateral meeting coincides with the meeting of the Group of 20 finance ministers and central bank presidents as part of the annual Spring Meetings between the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

The event will take place from Monday to Wednesday.

The finance ministers will talk about trilateral cooperation on economic and financial issues in response to arising instabilities such as the tensions in the Middle East as well as the Russia-Ukraine crisis.
