A hacker from North Korea has stolen over 700 million dollars in cryptocurrency from Japan.
On Monday, a local news agency in Japan discovered and reported the said theft with the help of a UK blockchain analysis provider called Elliptic.
The said group of hackers has been gradually stealing 721 million dollars worth of cryptocurrency assets over the years since 2017.
Crypto assets can be defined as a digital representation of value that may be transferred and stored electronically, using distributed ledger technology or similar technology.
The 721 million dollars worth of cryptocurrency assets is the 30% total of such losses globally.
The report was made after the group of seven finance ministers together with central bank governors announced and shared over the weekend that they support measures to counter increasing threats from illegal activities such as theft of crypto assets by state actors.
According to the blockchain analysis provider Elliptic, a total of 2.3 billion dollars in cryptocurrency was stolen by North Korea from businesses between the years 2017 and 2022.
