TO efficiently record and consolidate cases of Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) in Davao City, the Integrated Gender and Development Division (IGDD) is planning to digitalize the reporting of the cases.
IGDD Head, Ms. Lorna Mandin, said in an interview with the City Information Office (CIO) on Thursday, that data-related issues tend to arise in consolidating VAWC reports since numerous agencies cater to these reports.
The digitalization will help consolidate the reports from different agencies into one database management system.
“We are currently working on digitalizing the reporting of VAWC cases so that we can consolidate the data in one database management system since we have different agencies like the Social Welfare, police, IGDD, and barangays who cater these reports. In this manner, we can also avoid the double or multiple counting of reports,” Mandin shared.
For 2024, according to Mandin, the IGDD will continue its community consultations.
The on-ground consultations enable the office to gather insights from the community on the aspects of their services that they can still improve, as well as on the programs that they can implement.
In 2023, the IGDD recorded a total of 2707 reported cases of VAWC, which is 68.86 percent higher than their 2022 record of 1864.
Mandin said that the increase in the number of reports that their office has recorded implies that the level of awareness of the people is high, and the platforms where the victims may contact can also be accessed easily.
“The level of awareness is high, and they are reporting the abuse because we already have a lot of platforms where they can report like in the Davao City Reports (DCR) and the Kean Gabriel Hotline. Victims no longer have to personally go to our office because one of the reasons why they do not report the abuse is because they are afraid that they will be identified. Victims or concerned citizens may opt to send us a message or call us. They can also come to our office,” she explained.
Mandin also urged the public to report cases of VAWC that they have witnessed in their community regardless of whether or not they are related to the victims.
Dabawenyos may reach the IGDD through these numbers: 226-8011 or 241-1000 local 205 or 339.
They may also contact the DCR through these numbers: 0917 131 2333 or 0919 072 2222; or send an email through [email protected]; or reach out to the DCR Facebook Page: Davao City Reports. They may also send their reports through the Kean Gabriel Hotline (0908 818 4444). CIO
