UAE President calls for immediate ceasefire as fighting intensifies

SUPPPORTED by Gulf Nations and ASEAN Leaders, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan renewed calls for a ceasefire, as well as the immediate release of civilian hostages, and a two-state solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Sheikh Mohamed emphasized the importance of opening humanitarian corridors to transport medical and relief aid to the besieged Gaza Strip, stating that the region was facing a “grave conflict.”

The President of the UAE also offered condolences to the families of all victims of the war and emphasized the need to preserve civilian lives in a speech he made during the GCC-Asean Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The UAE has pledged $20 million in urgent humanitarian aid for residents in Gaza a few days after Hamas launched the surprise attack in Israel on October 7.

The Gulf nation also deployed medical aid and 68 tonnes of food aid to the war-torn Palestinian enclave.

Additionally, the UAE has announced the launch of a humanitarian campaign called “Compassion for Gaza” to support Palestinians affected by the war.

The relief efforts are continuing this weekend with events in Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi.

The events aim to prepare 25,000 relief packages with the support of volunteers nationwide.

Organizers are planning to expand the initiative to other emirates outside of Abu Dhabi at a later stage.

The UAE and Saudi Arabia are working to overcome their differences as the conflict between Israel and Hamas threatens to create a larger war in the Middle East.
