A new significant milestone in the UAE’s journey in space exploration is underway.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, has recently approved the launch of MBZ-SAT no earlier than October 2024.
Sheikh Hamdan, who also serves as President of Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center (MBRSC), visited the agency earlier this week and chaired a meeting to talk about the objectives and updates of the UAE’s National Space Program.
He was also told of the upcoming phases of MBZ-SAT which is touted as the most advanced satellite in the region.
Capturing high-resolution images is the satellite’s most advanced feature.
The images can be used globally to help in urban planning, monitoring environmental changes, water quality, and agricultural development.
The satellite will help the space center download data three times faster and produce images ten times more of its current capacity.
The Crown Prince expressed confidence that pioneering projects like MBZ-SAT could help elevate the Arab region’s status in the global space industry as the country aims for ambitious space missions in years to come.
