LUSOT na sa Commission on Appointments (CA) ang ad interim appointment ni Commission on Elections (COMELEC) chairman George Erwin Garcia at Civil Service (CSC) commissioner Karlo Nograles.
Mabilis ang pagkakakumpirma ng dalawa sa CA Committee on Constitutional Commission and Offices kung saan hindi na ito umabot sa tatlong oras.
Sa pagdinig ay isa-isang sinagot ni Garcia at Nograles ang mga katanungan ng mga senador at kongresista na miyembro ng CA.
Para kay Garcia, kabilang dito ang paghalungkat sa isang dating kaso patungkol sa isang pinag-aagawang property.
Pero giit ni Garcia, ito ay napagdisisyunan na ng korte at hindi ang CA ang tamang venue upang ito ay pag-usapan.
“This was decided with finality by the courts so if the oppositor would like to take this opportunity now, this venue or forum then it’s up to her. But I believe that the members of this institution will exercise their greatest prudence, the wisdom to separate what is applicable here and what is for the courts to decide,” ayon kay Garcia.
Para naman kay Nograles, tinanong siya kung maaari bang maging service employees ang ROTC Corp commanders at junior officers.
“Is there a possibility for enticing, making ROTC Corp commanders and other junior officers as civil service employees with honorarium while they are serving as ROTC officers while studying on various college and universities. Can it be done?” kuwestyon ni Senador Francis Tolentino.
“We will have to study the legal basis your honor… we commit to review the proposal,” tugon naman ni Nograles.
Si Nograles at Garcia ay magkapareho ang naging kapalaran simula sa nakaraang administrasyon.
Matapos na inappoint ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Roa Duterte sa posisyon ay dalawang beses na postpone ang kanilang CA confirmation hanggang sa na-bypass sa ikatlong pagdinig dahil sa kakulangan ng quorum sa huling araw ng sesyon sa 18th Congress.
Ang dalawa ay nagbabalik sa kanilang dating ahensiya matapos in-appoint ni Pangulong Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos sa pwesto.
“With that majority leader there is a motion duly seconded by everyone in this commission on the ad interim appointment of George Erwin Garcia as chairperson of the Commission on Election with a term expiring Feb. 2, 2029 Vice Saidamen Pangarungan… is hereby confirmed congratulation sir,” pahayag ni Senador Juan Miguel ‘Migz’ Zubiri.
Si Nograles bago naging kalihim ay dating kongresista ng Davao City, habang si Atty. Garcia naman ay kilala bilang high profile elections lawyer, kung saan kabilang sa naging kliyente nito si Pangulong Marcos.
