Flying foxes scare residents from using local park

RESIDENTS are hesitating to visit Rosalind Park in the Victorian city of Bendigo amid fears that they will be defecated on by thousands of flying foxes while walking through the area.

Rosalind Park is home to nearly 38,000 grey-headed flying foxes.

Their population has expanded by more than 3,000 percent in three months.

From 1,200 in February, their population suddenly soared to 38,000 in May.

Cleaners are being deployed to address complaints of unpleasant smells in the area.

Authorities are concerned the awful stench will discourage tourists from visiting the local park.

Some visitors said they are afraid that poop will land anytime in their heads, or worse, in their food.

The flying foxes have been a permanent feature of the park since 2010 and their population is expected to decrease over time.
