New Thai PM meets Elon Musk in New York

THAILAND’s Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin met Tesla chief Elon Musk in New York where they discussed the electric vehicle industry.

Srettha met Musk during the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York which ended this week.

The 61-year-old real estate tycoon turned prime minister talked about electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla, the rocket and satellite company SpaceX, including the internet venture Starlink during his meeting with the American business magnate.

Musk currently holds the first position in the list of the Richest Men in the World, with a net worth of $269.8 billion, and his source of wealth mostly comes from Tesla and SpaceX.

Thailand produces about 1.5 million to 2 million vehicles annually and about half of them are exported.

Automakers with plants in Thailand include Toyota and Honda as Japanese carmakers dominate Southeast Asia.

Thailand is the fourth-largest automobile assembly hub in Asia.

The Southeast Asian country has been offering incentives to electric vehicle and battery makers, as well as tax cuts to local EV buyers to maintain its status as a regional auto center.
