Turkiye carries airstrikes in Iraq after deadly Ankara blast

TURKIYE launched airstrikes in Iraq on Monday in response to a terrorist attack near its Interior Ministry in Ankara.

Turkish warplanes destroyed “20 targets used by terrorists” in northern Iraq, targeting suspected strongholds of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party or PKK.

Turkiye’s goal is to stop the PKK and other terrorist groups, prevent attacks from northern Iraq, and protect its borders.

The attack in Ankara involved a suicide bomber, and the PKK claimed responsibility.

Although there were no deaths, two police officers were injured.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned the act, saying it aimed to scare Turks but won’t succeed.

The PKK has been fighting for independence in southeast Turkiye and parts of Iraq and Syria since the 1980s.

This attack happened as Turkiye’s parliament discussed Sweden’s NATO membership, which is on hold.

Sweden’s Foreign Minister Tobias Billstrom condemned the attack and promised to support Turkiye in fighting terrorism.
