THE United Arab Emirates (UAE) has sent military and security equipment to Chad to support efforts against terrorism and to strengthen border protection.
Chad, a neighbor of Niger where a military coup took place last month, received military vehicles and other security gear from the UAE.
The Gulf nation sent the shipment after the the two countries had signed a military cooperation agreement in June.
Chad’s President, General Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, led the North-Central African country since his father Idriss Deby Itno died from gunshots while fighting rebels more than two years ago.
Chad sees the UAE as an important partner in terms of foreign investment, development assistance, and trade while two countries have explored partnership in other areas of cooperation such as infrastructure, agriculture, and energy.
The United Arab Emirates has provided humanitarian aid and food supplies to Sudanese refugees in Chad and established a field hospital in the northern part of the country.
The UAE has transported nearly 2,000 tones of medical, food and aid relief to Port Sudan and Chad since the conflict between the Sudanese Army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) broke out in April.
