World leaders attend Ebrahim Raisi’s funeral in Iran

IRAN’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei led the funeral prayers as thousands of Iranians filled the streets in the capital Tehran.

Among those who attended the funeral ceremony were Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani who conveyed their sympathies in person during a conversation with Iran’s Supreme Leader.

Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah also attended the ceremony. His trip to the capital marked his second visit to Iran since 2023.

Ismail Haniyeh, the political head of Hamas, offered his condolences on behalf of Palestine.

The visit was his first trip outside of Qatar since the International Criminal Court requested an arrest warrant for alleged war crimes along with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also took time to travel to Iran to offer his sympathies and condolences in person.

Russia, a close ally of Iran, sent the chairman of Russia’s State Duma lower house of parliament to Raisi’s funeral ceremony.

Iranian officials met the Russian official at the airport as he paid tribute to the late president on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Meanwhile, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov visited the Iranian ambassador’s residence in Moscow to pay respects and signed the memorial book of martyrs of service.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani was also in attendance.

The Iranian embassy in China hosted a two-day memorial book-signing event to honor the deaths of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and other officials who died in a tragic helicopter crash on Sunday.

Other international leaders who attended Raisi’s funeral were the deputy leader of Lebanon-based, Iran-backed group Hezbollah. a spokesman for Yemen-based Houthi, the President of Tunisia, and the Foreign Minister of Egypt.
