UPCOMING young actress Maria Angela Campo “Gela” Atayde will be rocking the 2023 World Hip Hop Dance Championship on July 30 to August 6 at the ballroom of Arizona Grand Resort and Spa in Phoenix.
After qualifying with her group Legit Status into the world’s grandest dance competition, Gela eyeing to win the Arizona championship hip-hop street dance tilt.
But after competing in the biggest hip-hop dance competition or, the 21-year-old De La Salle University third-year AB Communication Arts student will resume her acting career.
“As of now we practice five times a week but as the competition gets closer and as our fundraising concert gets closer, we are transitioning to everyday training,” Gela Atayde said.
Gela, the youngest sister of actor and Quezon City first district Congressman Arjo Atayde is now engaged in intense practice and training as the competition kicks off next month.
“It is an honor to be able to represent the country in this competition. This has been a dream of mine since the start of my dance career. This competition is a big deal to a lot of dancers around the world and it’s something we really look forward to every year both as a competitor and audience,” Atayde added.
She noted that it’s really an honor to be one of the dancers that will represent the country in the world competition.
Gela and her group Legit Status will be dancing competitively against 100-plus foreign teams in the Megacrew division, which is composed of a minimum of 15 to a maximum of 40 members.
Although no official line-up of teams has been revealed yet as of the moment, Legit Status will be competing with dancers coming from the United States, Canada, China, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, and Mexico, among other nations.
