Iran’s supreme leader welcomes Syrian ally President Assad in Tehran

SYRIAN President Bashar Al-Assad held talks with Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Iran’s capital Tehran.

The Syrian leader offered his condolences over Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s sudden death from a helicopter crash two weeks ago.

During their talks, Khamenei asserted that Western nations and their regional allies “failed” in their attempts to destabilize Syria’s government, according to Student News Network.

Iranian forces and militias based in Syria regularly launch air strikes against Israel, posing a threat against them.

To recall, the late President Raisi visited Syria in May 2023 and received a grand welcome from high-ranking Syrian officials and members of the public.

This is Assad’s third visit to Iran since the Syrian civil war started in 2011.

A day before the Syrian President’s visit, Khamenei welcomed Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. The Iranian Supreme Leader told the Hamas chief of the “divine promise” to eliminate Israel and the “rise of Palestine” which they hope to witness someday.
