RUSSIA claims that Ukraine’s counteroffensive in the Southern Park of the Donetsk Region failed but Ukraine’s military said they have no information about a major attack that occurred in the said region.
Russia’s defense ministry on Monday claimed that Ukrainian forces tried to mount a major offensive in the southern part of Donetsk, but they have successfully thwarted the operation.
In a statement, the Russian ministry on Sunday said Ukrainian troops tried to attack Russian forces using six mechanized and two tank battalions.
But Russia said its forces thwarted Kyiv’s, and in the last 24 hours, Russia claimed Ukraine has lost up to 300 service members, 26 armored and 124 ordinary vehicles, and 16 tanks.
However, on Monday, the Ukrainian military said it had zero information about a major attack in the region.
The latest developments came as Ukrainian officials have for months talked about a major counteroffensive that was allegedly expected to happen in spring.
Ukrainian Pres. Volodymyr Zelenskyy has many times claimed that his forces are ready but still needs more time to receive more weapons from Kyiv’s allies.
