South Korea’s fighter jet, iconic missile retires after decades-long service

SOUTH Korea’s F-4E Phantom Fighter Jets and its iconic “pop-eye” missiles made their final performance before their official retirement.

The military revealed recently that the Phantom fighter jets completed its live-fire exercises last week.

The Phantoms will officially retire on the 7th of June after 55 years of service.

The fighter jets played a strategic role in boosting the country’s air defense against North Korea.

The iconic missile was first introduced into the Republic of Korea Air Force in 2002 where it served as a strategic weapon for precision strikes until the introduction of a more advanced cruise missile in 2007.

As South Korea reassesses its military assets, the country also hosted an annual conference of South Korean overseas diplomatic mission chiefs attended by more than 180 ambassadors, consuls general, and other heads of diplomatic missions in foreign countries worldwide.
