INDICTED Republican lawmaker George Santos has been kicked out over allegations that he stole money from his campaign and committed corruption.
“The chair announces to the House that in light of the expulsion of the gentleman from New York, Mr. Santos, the whole number of the House is now 434,” according to Mike Johnson, US Speaker of the House.
With an overwhelming vote of 311 to 114, the US House of Representatives moved to expel Republican Representative George Santos, in Washington DC.
The 35-year-old freshman Republican of New York was expelled following a critical ethics report that accused Santos of misappropriating campaign donations for luxury expenses such as holidays in the Hamptons, and spending money on OnlyFans, a platform where users pay for content including pornography.
The report found he ‘blatantly stole from his campaign’ and exploited his position ‘for his financial profit’.
Santos has been charged with 23 felony counts, including fraud, money laundering, and theft of public funds, as well as several other allegations.
Santos has strongly denied all charges and has yet to appear in court.
Santos is only the sixth representative to be ousted from the US Congress.
His removal lowers the number of House Republicans to 221, with House Democrats at 213.
