Russia welcomes Indonesia’s peace plan; Kyiv thumbs it down

RUSSIA expressed its appreciation for any initiatives done by other countries to achieve peace.

This was said by Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko, reacting to Indonesia’s proposal for a ceasefire in Ukraine.

To recall, Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto on Saturday presented his country’s multi-point peace plan initiative at the Shangri-La Dialogue Defense Meeting in Singapore, which includes a ceasefire and the establishment of a demilitarized zone.

“I propose that the Shangri-La dialogue find a mode of… Voluntary declaration urging both Ukraine and Russia to immediately start negotiations for peace,” said Prabowo subianto, Defense minister of Indonesia.

Ukraine has rejected Indonesia’s plan, believing it is a plan beneficial to Russia.

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Oleg Nikolenko said that Kyiv appreciates Indonesia’s attention, however, the said country was apparently drawing conclusions from its own history.

“We appreciate the attention that Indonesia, apparently drawing conclusions from its own history, is paying to the issue of restoring peace in Ukraine,” said Oleg Nikolenko, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Spokesman.

Nikolenko also said that a ceasefire without the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine will allow Moscow to win time, regroup, fortify the occupied territories, and accumulate forces for a new wave of aggression.

“A ceasefire without the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine will allow Russia to win time, regroup, fortify the occupied territories and accumulate forces for a new wave of aggression,” said Oleg Nikolenko, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Spokesman.

Indonesia has its non-aligned diplomacy approach and has attempted to mediate peace. Indonesian President Joko Widodo has visited both countries and held meetings with their leaders.

And although Indonesia signed a UN resolution denouncing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, it has not issued any economic sanctions against Moscow.
