Thai PM visits China for first diplomatic tour outside ASEAN

CHINESE President Xi Jinping warmly welcomed Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin as he arrived in Beijing earlier this week to attend the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF).

In his welcome speech, Xi said that China and Thailand are neighbors linked by blood, with bilateral ties deeply rooted in the hearts of the people from the two nations, along with a pledge to further strengthen their family-like relations.

Xi also expressed his sincere greetings and best wishes to Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn.

The third edition of the forum held at the Chinese capital of Beijing from October 17 to 18 was attended by representatives from 130 countries including Thailand.

The international event centered on China’s signature Belt and Road Initiative has cemented the status of the world’s second-largest economy as a major international player in global infrastructure.

Srettha also attended the China-Thailand Investment Forum opened in Beijing on Thursday and was attended by nearly 300 business representatives from the two countries.

The event seeks to promote economic, tourism, and cultural cooperation between the two sides.

As ties between Thailand and China blossom, Russian President Vladimir Putin also accepted Prime Minister Srettha’s invitation to visit Thailand. The exact date of the visit has not been set yet, but it is expected to take place sometime next year.
