HUNDREDS of retail workers affiliated with Germany’s ‘Ver. Di’ Trade Union joined the picket line outside a popular shopping mall in Berlin recently after announcing a four-day strike to demand higher wages.
Crowds of demonstrators gathered outside the mall, wearing yellow vests as Ver. Di’s representatives addressed them from a stage.
Later, the protesters were seen blowing whistles as they marched through the city with large banners.
The latest industrial action marks the third time workers have been on strike since the autumn.
Friday’s protest comes after retail employers reportedly canceled all scheduled negotiations with Ver. Di.
Retail workers in Berlin and Brandenburg are demanding a pay rise to meet inflation. Employers have recently offered a six percent increase after months of negotiations with Ver. Di. The union claims the proposal falls far short of expectations.
